British Values
For several years now, there has been the expectation and requirement by the government that all students in secondary schools and academies are taught about British Values; and what fundamentally it means to be a citizen of Britain.
British Values are defined as:
- Democracy
- The Rule of Law
- Individual Liberty
- Mutual Respect
- Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs
Please find an accompanying information sheet explaining what these values are and what we do at Hull Trinity House Academy to support our students in developing their own understanding of these values. Students are expected to learn and recall these British values as part of our tutorial and EPC programme. The Department for Education (DfE) specifies that schools must promote these values through their curriculum and school ethos. This includes developing students’ understanding of these values ensuring that they are incorporated into school assemblies, classes, and everyday interactions. The intent is not only to educate but also to foster an environment where students can
debate and discuss how these values play out in their own lives and in the broader society. Our academy vision and values have embedded an ethos of ‘The Trinity Way’ to promote and inspire with the way our pupils treat one another. Our core key values ensure that our pupils have the decency to conform to our high standards and expectations, pupils have the dignity to have self-respect and respect others, and finally that they have the dignity to be honest and uphold strong British values as part of our culture capital.
